Foreign Body Removal
Yes... pet's can be silly and eat things. Usually it doesn't cause a problem but sometimes it can.
The process isn't always easy to determine because our pets don't ever tell us they ate something, and many things do not show up on routine X-rays (string, cloth, etc) so it can be a big decision to go in surgically and look around to see if we can find something.
Even though we do this routinely, it is a very serious surgery. Anesthesia, damage to intestines, leaking, peritonitis are just a few of the things that we have to worry about both pre-op and post - op. Generally speaking the surgery goes well... it's the next 3-5 days that are critical watching for any of these side effects.
Depending on what exactly has to be done during these cases, costs range from $1000 - $3000.
